Has Politics Ever Been Enough?
Throughout 201 years of independence, politics has been at the forefront of Haiti's existence but rarely in a positive way. Haiti Innovation is a nonpolitical organization but that doesn’t mean we don’t recognize the role, positive or negative, politics play in ordinary Haitians’ everyday lives. However, we also recognize that politics do not consume the everyday lives of ordinary Haitians. Stationed in Haiti I can say with certainty that Haitians are concerned with where their next meal is coming from, how they will pay for their child’s education, and if they will be able to afford to take their sick child to the clinic but not which of the 30 some candidates they should vote for. And from the ground, as I meet with numerous grassroots organizations, there are plenty of Haitians and foreign nationals struggling to fulfill those very needs that the politicians, for hundreds of years, have been unable to meet.
